Texas A&M Head Football Coach R.C. Slocum announced a reorganization of his offensive staff.

"Monday morning I reorganized my offensive staff," Slocum said. "I have relieved Dino Babers of his responsibility for play calling and overall direction of the offense. Those duties will be assumed by Assistant Head Coach Kevin Sumlin. (Sumlin also coaches the wide receivers.) Coach Babers will continue to devote his time to developing the quarterbacks."

"I have been concerned and disappointed with the production of our offense," Slocum stated. "I am hopeful that these changes will help us move the offense in a more positive direction."

Sumlin, a 1986 graduate of Purdue, joined the Aggie coaching staff in 2001 as the assistant head coach and wide receivers coach. He served three years as the wide receiver coach at Purdue. Prior to his experience at Purdue, Sumlin coached five seasons with the University of Minnesota and tutored the quarterbacks in 1997, and worked with the wide receivers from 1993-96. He started his full-time coaching career working with wide receivers at the University of Wyoming in 1991-92. He served as a graduate assistant coach at Washington State University from 1988-90.

In each of the past four seasons, at least 14 different receivers have caught passes to help his squad reach four straight bowl games. The 1998 group of Purdue receivers established school records with 377 receptions for 4,208 yards and 43 touchdowns.
