"I appreciate Dr. Gates' comments. I am proud that our administration here at Texas A&M recognizes that there are numerous factors in evaluating a coach in a college setting. We place a high value on the total development of the young men in our program. However, make no mistake, we do value winning and championships and we are not pleased with our current record.
"Currently, no coach in the Big 12 has won more championships than I have, and I plan to win some more. We are off to a great start in recruiting and Texas A&M offers a great opportunity for young men to come in and play early, while getting a quality education from a great university."
NOTE--Aggie Head Coach R.C. Slocum left immediately after practice for the wake of Bobby Mohr, a prominent Aggie who lived in Dallas and had served as President of the 12th Man Foundation in recent years.
