Texas A&M senior offensive lineman Taylor Whitley was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VI football second team Thursday in a vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
An August 2002 graduate of A&M with a management degree, Whitley continues his streak of 34 straight starts for the Aggies at right guard while taking graduate level classes in the Mays Business School.
A native of Sudan, Texas, Whitley was named to the 2002 Dave Campbell's Texas Football All-Texas College second team.
Whitley has been major cog in the Aggies offensive success this season as the team has averaged 435 yards and 35.7 points over the past seven games.
Included in that is a win this past Saturday over No. 1-ranked Oklahoma at Kyle Field. The Aggies overcame a 10-0 deficit to win, 30-26. It marked the Aggies' first win over an Associated Press top-ranked opponent.
The Aggies wrap their home schedule this Saturday by hosting Missouri at 1 p.m.
Student-athletes are selected to the Verizon Academic team with better than a 3.2 GPA and based on their athletic achievements.
