Texas A&M libero Rebecca Wynalda has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VI volleyball second team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
Wynalda is averaging 1.85 digs per game and has appeared in every match and in 95 of 96 games this season. She has reached double figures in digs in eight matches, including a career-high 16 digs in a four-game victory over BYU. In addition, Wynalda has led the team in digs in three matches, including a team-high 15 digs in the Aggies' 3-2 come-from-behind victory at Kansas on Wednesday.
A junior from Kennedale, Texas, and a member of the Professional Program in Accounting, Wynalda has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while concurrently pursuing both her bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting.
The academic team was selected by members of COSIDA in District VI, which encompasses the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. To be eligible for academic all-district honors, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have achieved at least sophomore status.
Wynalda and the 18-7 Aggies return to action Sunday as A&M plays host to No. 20 Kansas State in a key Big 12 matchup. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. at G. Rollie White Coliseum. Wynalda and her teammates will be available for autographs following the match.
