Texas A&M senior Bernard King has been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week and A&M freshman Antoine Wright has been named Phillips Big 12 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week honors are selected by a media panel, which cover the league.
King scored a game-high 26 points with six assists and six rebounds in 79-77 upset win against LSU in Houston. The Gibsland, La., guard made 4-of-6 three-pointers and 9-of-16 from the field against Tigers. King is averaging 18.7 points and five assists per game. With 1,587 career points, King needs 192 to become A&M's career leader and 244 to pass Iowa Stat's Marcus Fizer as the Big 12 all-time leader.
Wright posted back-to-back 20-point efforts last week against Miami (Fla.) and LSU. The San Bernardino, Calif., forward scored a career-high 25 against Miami and added 22 in win against LSU. He made 10-of-19 from three-point range in those two games. For the week, Wright averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and made 5-of-5 from the line. For the season, Wright is averaging 18.3 points and seven rebounds while making 50.0 percent from three-point range and 85.7 percent from the line.
Last season, King became the first A&M player to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors after scoring 30 points in the Aggies' upset of No. 24-ranked Texas in Austin. The last A&M player to be named Big 12 Rookie of the Week since Nick Anderson in the 2000-01 season. This week marks the first time A&M players have swept the league's weekly honors.
