Aggie Softball Travels to Italy to Take on Italian National Team

Texas A&M Softball Coach Jo Evans and her 2003 squad are scheduled to leave for Italy on January 2 where they will be spending eight days in Rome and Sicily before returning to College Station and beginning the spring semester.

While in Italy the team will have the opportunity to visit numerous historic sites as well as gain valuable international experience by playing the Italian National Softball team.

Coach Evans looks forward to the trip and the positive impact that it can have on her team and the 2003 season.

"We are excited to have this opportunity to play softball in Italy. It will be a wonderful opportunity for our players to experience a different culture and to compete against athletes from another country. It helps our team get a jump start on the season and allows us to prepare for a very competitive spring season."

The Aggies will arrive in Rome on the 3rd of January where they will spend three days touring the city's beautiful and historic sites. While in Rome the team will visit famous churches and squares as well as the Pantheon, the Temple of the Antiquity, St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Coliseum.

The group will then fly to Palermo, Sicily on the fifth where they will take on the Italinan National Softball team in exhibition games.

While in Palermo the team will also visit the famous Cathedral of Monreale, the Capella Palatina monument, the Roman Cathedral and many other sites.

The squad returns to the states on the tenth of January in time to start the spring semeter and the 2003 season.

The Aggies open the season on February 4th at the Aggie Softball complex against Stephen F. Austin at 3 p.m.
