Texas A&M's new football complex will be named the "Bright Football Complex" in honor of the family of H.R. "Bum" Bright, which pledged $5 million to the Championship Vision Campaign dedicated to the construction of the football complex portion of the football complex and academic center project.
Mr. Bright, a 1943 graduate of Texas A&M University, is a longtime supporter of and donor to various projects at the university. He also served as chairman of the board of regents and was owner of the Dallas Cowboys. Among recent gifts, Bright has provided $25 million to Texas A&M for several university endeavors, including providing matching funds for a host of academic chairs and scholarships. The building that houses the Department of Computer Science is also named in his honor.
Construction on the $27-$30 million football complex and academic center project, which is being built at the south end of Kyle Field, began on April 8, 2002 and completion is expected in the Fall of 2003. Other naming opportunities within the scope of the project include the academic center, coaches' offices, locker rooms, and football players' lounge.
