Texas A&M Head Coach Jo Evans and the Aggie Softball team will open practice Tuesday, January 13th at 3:15 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex in preparation for the 2003 season.

The Aggies first practice comes four days after returning from a weeklong trip to Italy where they faced off against an Italian All-Star team in Palermo, Sicily. The Aggies were slated to compete against the All-Stars three times, but were only able to play twice after the opening game was cancelled due to rain. The Aggies won the remaining two games in convincing fashion as they beat the Italian team 20-0 and 17-0.

The Aggies have high hopes for the season after advancing to the NCAA Regionals last year, and are ready to get the 2003 campaign underway.

Head Coach Jo Evans is looking forward to getting her team on the practice field after warming up in Italy.

"I think that the girls will be excited to start practice after getting a little taste of playing while in Italy. I am excited to start playing as well. We know what is ahead of us and we have high expectations for the season. Practicing is something that the players want to do in order to get ready to play."

Coach Evans knows what she has in her returning players and looks forward to the contributions that this years freshman will make.

"I am excited about our freshamn. They will have the opportunity to contribute and play. Even those that do not start will be able to come in and contribute off the bench. They all work very hard on and off the field. In the short time they have been here we have seen that they will be a vital part of our program."

The Aggies begin their season at the Aggie Softball Complex on Tuesday, February 4th at 3 p.m. when they play host to Stephen F. Austin in a doubleheader.
