The Texas A&M Softball team is nearly two weeks in to practice and they are making positive strides each day according to seventh year Head Coach Jo Evans.

"We have got a lot of work done in the week and a half that we have practiced. Our players are working hard and we have progressed well. We need to continue to get our hitters and pitchers more comfortable doing their jobs."

Evans has a new hitting coach in first year assistant Rich Wieligman, and she looks to improve on last years performance at the plate.

"The team is doing a great job making progress in their batting. The girls are hitting for power and taking the ball to the opposite field. They are really ahead of the game at this point."

Evans is happy with what her squad is doing on the practice field and looks forward to displaying their hard work once the season begins.

"I am pleased with the progress that we are making on the field. We have a real positive environment and everybody is working really hard. We are all anticipating the season opener."

The Aggies finished the 2002 season ranked 21st in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25. The team opens the 2003 season on February 4th when they play host to Stephen F. Austin in a double header. The games will be played at the Aggie Softball Complex beginning at 3 p.m.
