The Texas A&M men's golf team carded five-under-par 275 on Thursday and climbed into 12th place at the Taylor Made Waikaloa Intercollegiate.
The tournament's final round will be played on Friday.
The Aggies were in 17th place after an 11-over-par 299 on Wednesday on the par-72 Kings Course at the Waikaloa Resort. A&M played the second round on the par-70 Beach Course.
The Aggies were led by juniors Parker Briley and David Tasker, who each fired a three-under-par 67. Briley is tied for 14th in the individual standings with a two-under-par total of 73-67=140, five strokes behind TCU's Adam Meyer, who leads the individual race at 67-68=135.
Also for A&M, junior Stephen Reed is at even-par 72-70=142, Tasker is at 76-67=143, senior Shaun Helmle is at 78-71=149 and freshman Andrew Parr is at 78-77=155.
UCLA carded a nine-under-par 271 on Thursday and leads the team standings with a 20-under-par total of 574, one stroke ahead of TCU's 575.
"I'm really pleased with how we played today, A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "We showed that we can compete against almost anyone. We were disappointed we didn't move up more in the standings, but with another good round on Friday we could move past some more teams."
