The No. 19 ranked Texas A&M Aggies took on the Southwest Texas Bobcats in a double header at Bobcat Field in San Marcos on Wednesday and were defeated in both contests by scores of 2-0 and 3-2.
In the first game the Bobcats got on the board first as they scored twice in the bottom of the first. The two runners got on base after being hit by junior Jessica Slataper. With two outs and two runners on sophomore Rachael Bonetti delivered a bases clearing double that drove in the only two runs of the game as the Aggies lost the opener 2-0.
The junior from humble settled in, after hitting two batters and allowing a double in the first inning, and did not allow a hit the rest of the way as she recorded eight strikeouts in pitching her seventh complete game of the year. With the loss Slataper moves to 3-4 on the year.
The Aggies out hit the Bobcats five to one but could not drive the runners home as they stranded six. The Ags were led at the plate by sophomore Jana James and senior Crystal Martin who were two for three and two for two, respectively.
In the second game the Aggies jumped out to a one run lead before relinquishing it to the Bobcats after Southwest Texas added runs in the bottom of the second and third innings. The 'Cats two runs were unearned as runners advanced on two A&M errors. The Bobcats held the lead until the top of the seventh when junior pitcher Lindsay Wilhelmson helped her own cause by hitting a towering shot over the left field wall knotting the game at two. The tie would not last long as SWT had two runners on in the bottom of the seventh when right fielder Ashley Koop came to the plate and delivered a game winning double down the left field line.
With the loss the 19th ranked Aggies move to 8-6 on the year. Texas A&M takes the field again on Friday as they host the St. Jospeh's Aggie Invitational II at the Aggie Softball Complex. The tournament is a four-team round-robin event that will begin on Friday morning at 10:00.
