The No. 19 Texas A&M softball team (17-7) defeated Georgia State (5-7) Friday night in the Democrat Invitational on the campus of Florida State.
Junior Lindsay Wilhelmson improved her record to 8-2 after allowing only two baserunners in her five innings of work. She allowed only one hit and struck out three as she was backed by superior defense from her teammates. Senior Lindsay Rippee entered the game in the sixth inning and pitched the final two innings striking out two and retiring the first six batters she faced.
Offensively the Aggies dominated their opponents, outhitting them 11-1 and capitalizing on two Georgia State errors. Sophomore Jana James and senior Cheryl Fowler led the attack as each were 3-3 on the night. James had one RBI to go along with her three hits while Fowler scored twice and drove in two runs.
The Aggies continue play in the Democrat Invitational tommorrow at 11:00 and 1:00 (CST) when they take on Iowa and Florida A&M, respectively.
