The Texas A&M softball team (18-8) won one of their two games today in the Democrat Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida. The Aggies played Iowa at 11:00 (CST) and lost 3-0 before run-ruling Florida A&M 9-1 in their second game.
Iowa pitcher Lisa Birocci held the Aggies at bay keeping them off of the score board and allowing only one hit as she recorded the 3-0 win. Iowa's three runs came off of an A&M error and two home runs by Jessica Bashor. Freshman Rocky Spencer was responsible for A&M's lone hit when she knocked a line drive up the right filed line in the fifth innning.
In the Aggies' second game, they rolled through Florida A&M in five innings beating them 9-1. Sophomore Jana James led the offensive explosion as she was three for three in the game with two runs scored and two RBI's. In the second inning senior Selena Collins hit her ninth homerun of the year when she sent the ball sailing over the left field wall with two runners on. Overall the Aggies had 10 hits in the game.
The Aggies are the two seed in Pool A as they are 2-1 going into the final day of tournament action. A&M will take on one of four teams from Pool B tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. (CST). Possible opponents are Florida State, Penn State, Rutgers and Winthrop.
