Texas A&M forward Antoine Wright has been named the Big 12 Conference's Freshman of the Year by The Associated Press.

Other honors included Oklahoma's Hollis Price as player of the year and Oklahoma State's Tony Allen as newcomer of the year. The honors were determined by vote of media members who cover the Big 12 on a regular basis.

Wright is the third A&M player in seven years to be named Big 12 Freshman of the Year, joining Jerald Brown (1997) and Bernard King (2000). Clifton Cook was named the league's newcomer of the year in 1999.

Wright is averaging 14.6 points and a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game and has made an impressive 62-of-160 (.388) from three-point range. Wright has posted eight 20-point efforts, including a career-high 25 against Miami and Texas.

He has been named Big 12 Rookie of the Week four times, tying Iowa State's Marcus Fizer (1997) for the league freshman record. Wright is one of just five freshmen in the nation this season to average at least 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
