Texas A&M Head Football Coach Dennis Franchione was pleased as the Aggie football team finished their second day of spring drills.
"We've accomplished a lot in these two days," Coach Fran said. "We taught a lot and got a lot of good work done. I'm proud of how hard the players are working and they got better today. We still have a long way to go, but I'm pleased."
Coach Fran mentioned that Andy Matakis, a redshirt freshman from Flour Bluff High School in Corpus Christi will be tried at tight end during the first part of spring drills. Matakis worked at linebacker last fall.
The Aggies are thin at tight end with two tight ends limited in their amount of work this spring. Returning starter Thomas Carriger, a junior with two letters, and Patrick Fleming, a sophomore who earned a letter last fall as a true freshman, are both limited this spring.
The Aggies will lift weights and watch video on Thursday before returning to the practice field for the first workout in pads on Friday at the grass practice fields beginning at 3:30 p.m. Practices are open to the public, but fans are encouraged to call the practice hotline at 979-458-2185 to register and for other instructions and information.
The Aggies will conclude spring drills with a Maroon & White Game, presented by AT&T Wireless, scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 12 at Kyle Field. Advance tickets are $5 and tickets the day of the game will be $7. For more ticket information contact the athletic ticket office at 1-888-99-AGGIE or 979-845-2311, or access the spring football information at AggieAthletics.com.
