No. 19 Texas A&M and No. 17 Oklahoma State faced-off for the 44th time today at the Aggie Softball Complex and the Agies came out on top 7-5. Sophomore Adrian Gregory set the pace for the Ags today as she reached base four times from the leadoff spot. Gregory scored four times and was 3-for-3 as she walked her first time up, hit a single her second time to the plate and then hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
The Aggies got on the board first as they put one run across in the bottom of the first. A&M recorded its run when Gregory reached on a walk and advanced to third on two ground outs before crossing the plate on a wild pitch by Cowgirl senior pitcher Lauren Bay.
A&M added to their lead in the bottom of the second as they put three runs on the board and knocked Bay out of the game. Bay, a three-time Big 12 pitcher of the week this year, was pulled when she loaded the bases after walking two batters and allowing a hit by Cheryl Fowler. Aggie pitcher Lindsay Wilhelmson, who reached on a walk to lead off the inning, scored when Adrian Gregory hit a single to right field. Fowler and Gregory scored the final two runs of the inning when senior catcher Selena Collins ripped a single through the right side increasing A&M's lead to 4-0.
The Cowgirls cut into the Aggie lead in the top of the fourth when junior Crystal Lee hit Wilhelmson's delivery over the left-center field fence and shortening the Aggie lead to one as Stephanie Hodges and Afton Burris scored after reaching on a fielders choice and a single respectively. The Aggies ended the Cowgirl rally and moved into the bottom of the inning with a 4-3 lead.
Gregory got one run back for the Aggies in the bottom of the fourth as she hit her third home run of the year in a towering shot to center giving the Aggies a 5-3 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth Gregory, who had scored every time up in the game, continued her torrid pace as she hit her second home run of the game to straight-away center on the first pitch from freshman right-hander Sarah Seagraves. The one-run shot was Gregory's fourth of the sesason and the first multi-homerun game of her career. Freshman Rocky Spencer followed Gregory's home run with an infield single and advanced to second when Collins grounded out to third base. With Spencer at second, freshman Kristin Gunter stepped into the box and plated Spencer when she hit a single to left field giving the Aggies a 7-3 lead.
OSU mounted a small rally in the top of the seventh as they scored two runs off of a Lauren Bay home run but could not produce any more runs as they dropped game one to the Aggies.
A&M and OSU face off again tomorrow at 1:00 PM at the Aggie Softball Complex.
