Texas A&M, ranked 19th nationally, swept No. 17 Oklahoma State in their weekend series by defeating them 3-0 Sunday at the Aggie Softball Complex. A&M beat OSU 7-5 in game one on Saturday. Junior right-hander Jessica Slataper earned the win and improved to 9-9 on the year as she struck out seven while pitching her 15th complete game of the year. Slataper only allowed two hits, both singles, in the contest.
The Aggies where held at bay for four innings while OSU senior left-hander Lauren Bay struck out eight Aggie batters before self-destructing in the fifth when she walked six and threw two wild pitches.
Bay's breakdown allowed the Aggies to get on the board as senior Crystal Martin crossed the plate on Bay's second wild pitch of the inning. Martin led the inning off by drawing a walk and advanced to second when designated player Lindsay Wilhelmson reached first on Bay's second consecutive walk. Freshman Ashley Awalt came into pinch run for Wilhelmson and advanced to second, pushing Martin to third, allowing her to score on the wild pitch. A&M added another run when Spencer hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field plating Awalt and giving the Aggies a 2-0 advantage. A&M scored their final run of the inning when Bay walked Collins allowing Atkins, who was pinch running for Jennifer Davis, to cross the plate increasing the Aggie lead to three runs.
A&M's three runs in the fifth were all they would need as they closed out the sixth and seventh innings by retiring the next six OSU batters.
Texas A&M returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to Austin to take on the No. 5 Texas Longhorns at McCombs field. The single game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 with live stats and audio available on AggieAthletics.com.
