The Texas A&M football team has voted on a Leadership Council for the 2003 season, head coach Dennis Franchione announced Tuesday.
The Leadership Council consists of players from each position group, plus special teams and non-scholarship representatives. At the end of the 2003 football season, permanent captains are voted on from among this group.
The members are:
QUARTERBACKS --- junior Dustin Long (Port Neches, Texas / PN-G HS) and sophomore Reggie McNeal (Lufkin, Texas / Lufkin HS);
RUNNING BACKS --- junior Derek Farmer (Tyler, Texas / Lee HS) and senior Oschlor Flemming (Denton, Texas / Ryan HS);
RECEIVER --- junior Terrence Murphy (Tyler, Texas / Chapel Hill HS);
OFFENSIVE LINE --- senior Alan Reuber (Plano, Texas / Plano HS) and junior Geoff Hangartner (New Braunfels, Texas / New Braunfels HS);
DEFENSIVE LINE --- senior Linnis Smith (Tyler, Texas / John Tyler HS);
LINEBACKERS --- senior Jared Morris (Brownwood, Texas / Brownwood HS) and sophomore Archie McDaniel (Bay City, Texas / Bay City HS);
CORNERBACKS --- junior Byron Jones (Bay City, Texas / Bay City HS), sophomore Ronald Jones (Dallas, Texas / Skyline HS) and senior Sean Weston (Inglewood, Calif. / Serra HS);
SAFETY --- sophomore Jaxson Appel (Friendswood, Texas / Friendswood HS)
SPECIAL TEAMS/TIGHT ENDS --- senior punter Cody Scates (Tyler, Texas / Lee HS)
NON-SCHOLARSHIP --- senior wide receiver Tim Van Zant (Victoria, Texas / Victoria HS).
Franchione also announced that selected members of the Leadership Council will "draft" teams for Saturday?s Maroon & White game presented by AT&T Wireless. Choosing for one team are Long, Byron Jones, Appel and Reuber, while McNeal, Morris, Weston and Hangartner will choose the other.
