April 10, 2003
| --Senior softball player Selena Collins will share her thoughts on the season, and other things, with us each week in AggieAthletics.com's player diary segment. April 10, 2003 We just came back from Texas yesterday and it was definitely a tough loss. We played all the way down to the last inning with the score 0 to 0 going into the bottom of the seventh. You always know that the game is going to come down to who gets that one big hit or that one big error. And in our case it came down to that one big hit. The uplifting part of the whole game was that we were able to shut them down just as effectively as they were able to shut us down. They only had 4 hits and we had 2. Another positive thing is that we get another shot at them at our house. We will be just as ready getting the opportunity to see Cat Osterman once again. I mentioned it to Jess last night after the game and I can't help but say it again. She did such a great job, keeping us in the game. She did everything she was supposed to do. She got ground balls when we needed them and strikeouts being the extra bonus plus. She stayed composed and hit her spots. She kept us in it long enough to win the game, the only thing that didn't happen was that we couldn't put enough hits together. It's always tough to lose games like that, and with Texas that is what the game always seems to come down to. Jess showed up last night, just as I thought we all did. I don't know if the pitchers really know just how important they really are to the hopeful outcome of the game. If they show up, it gives us a chance to put hits together for them. I don't mean to just talk about Jess, but I was proud to say that she brought it last night and I hope she gets even stronger for the rest of our season. I can't really say that I was just so distraught about the game because there were so many positives. Our defense showed up as well, and that is a big deal. Our team has always been known for our stellar defense and for us to perform the way we did, which was flawless, is something to be positive about. I don't doubt that our offense will come through. We head to Kansas this weekend and I look forward to what our team has to bring. SO Bring it Ags and let the chips fall where they may. To the seniors, we only have a few weeks 'til our careers are done here at A&M so let's bring what we've got everyday and lead our team to the BIG Dance. Good luck this weekend and beat the hell outta Kansas.
