Bobby Leach, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Neosho Community College in Chanute, Kan., has signed a national letter-of-intent to play college basketball at Texas A&M, Aggies head coach Melvin Watkins said Wednesday.
"We are very excited that Bobby has decided he wants to be an Aggie basketball player," Watkins said. "He brings a mental toughness to our team that we've lacked in previous years. With Bobby and the four players we signed in November, we feel we are bringing in our best recruiting class to date and we are looking forward to working with these young men."
Leach was an all-city selection at Bartram High School in Philadelphia in 2001. Last season at Neosho, he averaged 16.0 points and ranked fourth nationally with 9.1 assists per game. He also added 4.3 rebounds and ranked 20th in the nation with 3.0 steals per contest.
Leach, who led Neosho to a 23-9 record and the regional quarterfinals, earned second-team All-Jayhawk Conference honors. He made 48 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range and 75 percent from the free throw line. Leach also was recruited by Oklahoma State and Auburn.
Leach completes Watkins recruiting class for next season, joining four high school players who signed in November: LaKeith Blanks (Laurinburg Prep, Laurinburg, N.C.); Acie Law IV (Kimball High School, Dallas); Justin Loewe (Caldwell High School, Caldwell, Texas); and Marlon Pompey (Winchendon Prep,
Winchendon, Mass.).
