The Texas A&M men's golf team will compete in the 2003 U.S. Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday at the Stanford Golf Course. The tournament is the Aggies' final tuneup for the Big 12 Championships April 28-29 in Tulsa, Okla.

The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday for a total of 54 holes on the par-71, 6,786-yard course.

In addition to A&M, the 17-team field includes No. 2-ranked Oklahoma State, host Stanford, UCLA, California, Oregon, Washington State, Cal-Irvine, Long Beach State, San Diego State, San Francisco, Pacific, Portland, San Diego, Santa Clara, San Jose State and Fresno State.

Representing A&M will be juniors Stephen Reed and David Tasker, senior Shaun Helmle, freshman Andrew Parr and junior Parker Briley. Tasker leads the Aggies with a 72.58 stroke average, while Reed is averaging 73.19 per round. However, Reed has averaged 71.0 in the spring season and has posted a pair of second-place finishes.

Reed tied for second in the Aggies last outing at the Border Olympics April 4-5 in Laredo, leading the team to a stunning come-from-behind victory in the final round. The Aggies trailed Arkansas by 16 strokes with 18 holes to play, but rallied to defeat the Razorbacks in a four-hole playoff.

"This is our final tournament before the Big 12 Championships and we will be facing another great field of teams," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "I'm really anxious to see how we perform. Com,ing off the win in Laredo, our confidence is high and we are really beginning to play well."
