Texas A&M shortstop Crystal Martin was named the Big 12 Player of the Week Tuesday by the Big 12 office. Martin has now been recognized as the Player of the Week twice this season. She first received the award on March 25 for her play during the week of March 17-23.
In four games last week Martin went 9-for-11 (.818 avg.) with four runs scored and eight runs batted in. In Wednesday's doubleheader the Arlington, Texas, senior hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning against Texas A&M-Corpus that put the game out of reach. Her double in the fifth inning against A&M-CC in the second game started a five-run rally that solidified the win for the team. Martin hit a two-run home run on Saturday against Iowa State in the first inning of the first game that gave the Aggies a three-run lead. She also had 17 total bases, five putouts and 17 assists as well as going 4-for-4 in stolen bases during the week.
Along with Martin, two other Aggies have been awarded a weekly honor from the Big 12 this season. Junior Lindsay Wilhelmson received the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week award on March 5 and sophomore Adrian Gregory took the Player of the Week award on April 8.
