Texas A&M travels to Norman Friday to take on the Oklahoma Sooners in the final weekend of the regular season. The last time these two schools played, a trip to the College World Series was at stake. This weekend The teams squared off in the NCAA Regional final in Norman on May 19, 2003 with the Sooners coming out on top with an 8-1 victory that put them in the World Series. Saturday's game will be the 37th time that these two programs have played with OU holding a 25-11 edge.
A&M goes into Norman after blanking the Bears 2-0 on Thursday. The Sooners enter the weekend after having their four-game winning streak snapped by in-state rival Oklahoma State. The 15th-ranked Cowgirls defeated the fifth-ranked Sooners 4-0 in Stillwater.
Senior Crystal Martin leads the Aggies at the plate with a .317 average and 46 hits in 145 at bats. Martin has reached career highs this season in home runs (8), runs scored (30) and stolen bases (17). Junior Lindsay Wilhelmson has been tough in the circle as she has racked up 16 wins and only 5 losses. Over the season Wilhelmson has compiled a 1.79 ERA and 109 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .206 average.
Oklahoma is led at the plate by senior Leah Gulla who is hitting at a .410 clip with 55 hits, 10 doubles, 1 triple and 8 home runs equaling 45 RBI's. In the circle for OU the Aggies are likely to see Sophomore Kami Keiter who owns a sparkling 0.84 ERA and a 25-5 record. On the season Keiter has allowed 29 runs with 24 earned and struck out 182 batters while allowing only four home runs.
