The Oklahoma Sooners, ranked fifth in nation, defeated the No. 19 Aggies 4-2 at the OU Softball Complex on Saturday. Oklahoma took advantage of eight hits and three A&M errors, resulting in three runs, to upend the Aggies.
Junior Jessica Slataper received the loss and dropped to 12-12 on the season as she pitched 3.1 innings striking out 3 and allowing the only unearned run of the game. Senior Lindsey Rippee pitched 2.2 innings of relief striking out two and allowing no earned runs.
The Sooners put one run on the board in the third inning thanks to a Kami Keiter home run. Keiter, the OU pitcher helped herself, as she took Slataper's delivery over the right field wall. Oklahoma added two more runs on four hits and one Aggie error in the fourth inning raising their lead to 3-0. After giving up three runs Slataper was replaced by senior Lindsey Ripped who closed out the Sooner rally and took the Aggies to the fifth inning.
A&M designated player Lindsay Wilhelmson got one run back for the Ags in the top of the fifth when she led off with a rocket home run to center field cutting into the OU lead. The home runs was Wilhelmson's 10th of the season. A&M added one more run in the inning when pinch runner Ashley Awalt scored from third on a Rocky Spencer hit to shallow center field. Awalt was pinch running for Jennifer Davis after she hit an infield single. Awalt advanced to second on a Cheryl Fowler walk and then moved to third when Adrian Gregory grounded out to first base.
Oklahoma put one more run on the board in the sixth when Kelli Braitsch reached on an A&M error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Braitsch was plated on a Jessica Leslie single up the middle extending OU's lead to 4-2 going into the seventh.
The Sooner lead would hold as Adrian Gregory provided a single but was stranded on first with the Aggies losing 4-2.
