| In this One-on-One segment AggieAthletics.com sits down with sophomore second basemen Adrian Gregory. Adrian's stats speak for themselves this season, but we wanted to get to know her beyond the stat book. Adrian discusses everything from the character of this year's team, her mental approach at the plate, shorts or pants on the field, and American Idol. You currently lead the team in total bases and your name is all over every offensive category. Talk about swinging the hot bat this year.
"I am hitting good. I made a lot of corrections on my hitting. Coach Rich has done a lot of good things with me. I have done a lot of work and things are just falling my way this year. I am feeling really good at the plate, and I have been fortunate with the balls falling in." What is your mental approach when you step in the batter's box?
"I just get in there and do what I know. I get in there and just try to dare the pitcher to just pitch me my pitch so I can jump all over it."
Currently there are four teams bunched up in the middle of the conference. How does the team break away from the pack late in the season?
"We definitely need to get wins. We are doing great right now. We have lost a couple games lately but played really well. Now we just need to find ways to get the "W" and to play well and keep doing what we are doing." Discuss your up the middle partner Crystal Martin, and the role she has played in your development as a player.
"Crystal is great! She is a senior with great leadership. She really showed me the way on how to play infield and how to be a good middle infielder. She is having a great year this year and she is so easy to play with." What is this year's team best quality, the quality that can send this team deep into the postseason?
"Our ability to work together and our relationship with one another. Everyone is so close. We all know what everyone is thinking and feeling and somebody steps up each day." What is your most memorable moment in your young career to date at Texas A&M?
"Probably beating Texas at Regionals last year. That is probably the best one because we got swept by Texas every game last year and then we beat them at Regionals in good fashion, which was great." Home run, or making a diving defensive play for an out?
"Home run." Which do you prefer, rise ball, or drop ball?
"Definitely drop ball. I am definitely not a rise ball hitter. I love drop balls." Would you rather face a lefty or right handed pitcher? "I don't really care, either one. Probably a right-hander because they will come inside more." Shorts or pants when you play?
"Definitely shorts, I hate wearing pants." Shades or no shades out in the field?
"Shades. I always wear sunglasses." Head first slide or feet first?
"Head first. I came to A&M sliding feet first and had to make the adjustment to headfirst." 3-0 pitch, no coaches telling you what to do. Do you swing away, or make her throw you a strike?
"Taking. Automatically taking." Rumor has it you have a favorite contestant on the latest American Idol show. Can you shed any light on this?
"I love Clay (laughing). I am definitely his fan and I have to hear about it a lot from the girls on the team." |
