Texas A&M junior Stephen Reed (Houston/St. Thomas HS) has been named to the 2003 All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team, the conference office announced on Friday. The team was selected in balloting by the league's coaches.

Reed has played in all 11 tournaments for the Aggies this season, compiling a 73.76 stroke average. He has posted seven top-30 finishes and three top six performances. Reed tied for second at the Louisiana Classics and the Border Olympics, where he 54-hole score of 208 was the lowest by an Aggie in five years.

Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan was named Big 12 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season to become the fifth overall and fourth straight student-athlete from OSU to receive the honor in the Big 12's seven-year history. Texas freshman Matthew Rosenfeld was chosen Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, and Texas coach John Fields earned his second consecutive selection as Big 12 Coach of the Year.

A junior from McKinney, Texas, Mahan was the unanimous selection for Player of the Year. He leads the Big 12 in stroke average and has won two tournaments this season. Earlier this week he claimed medalist honors by 13 strokes at the Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. He has four other Top 10 finishes and has not placed out of the Top 20 this year. Mahan is second nationally in the most recent Golfweek ratings.

Rosenfeld, also an All-Big 12 selection, leads all conference newcomers in stroke average. He has six Top 20 finishes this season, including five in the Top 10. His best showing was a tie for third at the Ping/Golfweek Preview. He placed tied for seventh at the Big 12 Championship.

Fields, in his sixth season at Texas, led the Longhorns to their second straight Big 12 Championship. The Longhorns are ranked third in the latest Golfweek poll and have not finished out of the Top 10 in any of their 12 tournaments to date. They have placed in the Top five in eight tournaments.

Joining Reed, Mahan and Rosenfeld on the All-Big 12 Team are: Texas' Jason Hartwick and J.J. Wall, Baylor's Ryan Baca, Kansas' Chris Marshall, Kansas State's Aaron Watkins, Oklahoma's John Kidwell and OSU's Par Nilsson.
