The Texas A&M men's golf team carded a final round 297 on Sunday and finished tied for sixth at The Maxwell Intercollegiate at Ardmore Country Club.
No. 7-ranked Oklahoma State won the team title with an 11-under-par total of 829, 19 shots better than runners-up Tulsa (848) and SMU (848). No. 20 Arkansas finished fourth (856), followed by No. 24 Oklahoma (858), A&M (289-277-297=863), North Texas (863), Oklahoma City (864), No. 19 Washington (866), Houston (877), Colorado (882), Texas Tech (887), North Florida (889), Penn State (890) and Louisiana-Lafayette (905).
Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan captured the individual crown with rounds of 67-68-69=204 on the par-70 course, finishing one shot ahead of runner-up David Inglis of Tulsa (74-65-66=205).
A&M was led by junior Parker Briley, who tied for 10th with rounds of 74-64-73=211, the highest finish of his career. Also for A&M, freshman Andrew Parr tied for 21st at 74-72-69=215, junior Stephen Reed tied for 29th at 70-69-78=217, junior David Tasker tied for 44th at 71-72-77=220 and senior Shaun Helmle tied for 74th at 76-77-78=231.
The tournament was A&M's final tuneup for the NCAA Central Regional Thursday through Saturday in Manhattan, Kan. The top 10 teams at the 27-team regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 28-31 in Stillwater, Okla.
