Former University of New Mexico golfer David Schultz has transferred to Texas A&M, Aggies head coach J.T. Higgins said Tuesday. Schultz will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Schultz posted the Lobos' third-best scoring average last season at 73.58. He had a low round of 67 and had one top-10 finish.
A former all-state player at Berkner High School in Richardson, Schultz won a local U.S. Open qualifier in Albuquerque in 2002 with a course-record seven-under-par 65. Schultz's older brother, Mark, is a senior on the A&M golf team.
"David is a difference-maker. He will add stability and depth to our lineup and has the potential to compete with the very best players on the team," Higgins said. "He comes to us from a winning program where he has gained tremendous experience. David has a fantastic work ethic and knows what it takes to win. We are fortunate that he has decided to attend Texas A&M and look forward to the impact he will have on our team."
