The Texas A&M football team donned shoulder pads for the first time this fall during the workout Friday at the grass practice facility near Kyle Field.
The Aggies practiced for approximately three hours in shorts and shoulder pads in the early afternoon, and coach Dennis Franchione said he saw some good things and some bad things.
"It was good and bad," Franchione said. "It was about the way I would expect for the first day in shoulder pads. I thought they got after each other pretty good.
"We had a few missed assignments and we don't want that to happen. But, we know it will happen. I thought we got a lot done and got a lot installed, and we were able to get in some contact."
The Aggies will practice once on Saturday morning and once on Sunday afternoon in preparation for Monday when they will hold two workouts. The Aggies will suit up in full pads for Sunday's practice.
Joining the Aggies at the practice facility were members of the 11th Annual Aggie Football Kickoff Camp. Each season, the coaching staff welcomes the campers to campus to sit in on team and position meetings, practice sessions, while also participating in other events and socials. Proceeds annually benefit the Sterling Evans Library, the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, and this season will also benefit Coach Fran Charities.
More detailed information on the camp and its proceeds will be provided over the weekend.
A&M is preparing for its first game which is against Arkansas State on Saturday, August 30, at 7 p.m. at Kyle Field.
