The Texas A&M football team completed its first two-a-day practices of the 2003 season with a spirited two-hour evening workout in shorts and shoulder pads at the grass practice facility adjacent to Kyle Field. The Aggies' first workout of the day, which was also conducted in shorts and shoulder pads, began at 5:30 a.m.

"We went early this morning and it was about as cool as you could ask for at this time of year," head coach Dennis Franchione said. "This evening with the fronts moving around us and the rain, it was a pretty good temperature. That helped us have a good first day of two-a-days. The guys worked hard, pushed hard. I'm not disappointed with the effort or enthusiasm right now."

Coach Fran praised the new NCAA regulations that limit the number of traditional two-a-day workouts.

"This a good schedule," Coach Fran said. "We can do a lot of teaching and meeting, and not get too physically wore down. I like the way the rules have changed."

The Aggies return to the practice field on Tuesday for a single practice in full pads beginning at 2 p.m.

The Aggies open the 2003 campaign against Arkansas State on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. at Kyle Field.
