The Texas A&M football team held its second day of two-a-days with a pair of workouts Wednesday at the grass practice facility near Kyle Field.
The Aggies practiced once before sunrise in shorts and shoulder pads and then returned for a workout in the evening in shorts and helmets that ended under the lights. A&M will hold one workout on Thursday at 8 a.m. on Kyle Field.
"Mother Nature was very kind to us," A&M coach Dennis Franchione said. "I wore a jacket at 5:30 this morning and tonight was very comfortable. The good thing about today is we had a good workout this morning with shoulder pads and shorts, and wore shorts tonight. We got a lot done and it was productive.
"Today was finals and it was a distraction for some of the guys, but we had two good practices."
One day after announcing the retirement of returning starter at offensive line Andre Brooks, Franchione continues to be impressed with his young offensive lineman especially Cody Wallace from Cuero, Texas.
"Cody Wallace is really proving to be a special freshman as well as (Kirk) Elder and (Chris) Yoder," Franchione said. "And not that Corey Clark isn't and Jorrie (Adams), they are all doing well. It's just that Cody Wallace for 10 practices it is almost amazing and its very satisfying to see how much a freshman has learned in this offense in a short amount of time."
Practices are closed to the public, but Franchione has an open door policy for A&M football lettermen. Former two-time All-Southwest Conference tailback Larry Stegent was in attendance for the evening workout. Stegent lettered for the Aggies in 1967, '68 and '69, and recorded seven 100-yard rushing games over those three seasons.
The annual Picture and Poster Day presented by Cingular Wireless will take place on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Kyle Field. Fans may bring one item to be autographed and footballs must be personalized.
The gates on the west side of Kyle Field will be open at 5 p.m. Fans may gather in the west (Former Students) stands and will be permitted on the field by an announcement at approximately 6 p.m. The event will conclude at 7 p.m.
A&M is preparing for its first game which is against Arkansas State on Saturday, August 30, at 7 p.m. at Kyle Field.
