Texas A&M's football team focused on the kicking game during its lone workout on Saturday morning which was held at Kyle Field.
The Aggies spent nearly 90 minutes of the two hour workout in different aspects of special teams from kickoffs to punts and field goals. The remainder of the workout was spent working general offense and defensive schemes.
"The biggest part of it was the kicking game," A&M coach Dennis Franchione said. "We had four or five penalties which were concerning and two balls we had on the ground during a punt and a kickoff return. We've got a lot of things to clean up in that aspect of the game right now. Fortunately we have some time to do it, too. Hopefully we can make some changes now with our personnel on our teams and get the guys who perform the best on our first teams. And start to become more cohesive and eliminate some of those problems."
Franchione said some players have caught his eye, but he is more concerned than impressed with some individuals.
"I've got to point out Jacob Young coming in and Todd Pegram," Franchione said. "Our snapper Don Muhlbach has done a good job. Other than that I am more concerned than I am impressed with any individuals yet at this point in time. I want to watch the video and see."
He went on to point out positive performances by Fred Woods on special teams and linebacker Justin Warren.
The Aggies returned later in the evening to host fans for the annual Photo and Poster Day presented by Cingular Wireless.
A&M is preparing for its first game which is against Arkansas State on Saturday, August 30, at 7 p.m. at Kyle Field.
