The Texas A&M football team took time to concentrate on the mental aspects of the game during its only workout Sunday evening at the grass practice facility.
The Aggies used a majority of the two hour practice walking through various situations on offense and defense before concluding with special teams.
"It was a light day," A&M coach Dennis Franchione said. "You have to have a mix of mental and physical days and time to recover.
"The more confident we are mentally, the more confident we can be physically."
Franchione said the team also focused on special situations that can arise in games.
"We covered a lot of situations," Franchione said. "Taking a knee, and the Hail Mary, some different little things. This gave us the chance to teach."
Following Saturday's practice that focused on the kicking game, Franchione said the staff made some depth changes on special teams.
"We made several moves in the kicking game, but we're not ready to say it's the depth chart" Franchione said. "Now we have the chance to look at the first and second teams before we make any final decisions."
Franchione said that if the first game was being played he would have juniors Terrence Murphy and Terrence Thomas returning kickoffs, with Thomas handling punt returns.
He also said that Jamaar Taylor, Chad Schroeder, Jason Carter, and Japhus Brown are also in the mix.
A&M is preparing for its first game which is against Arkansas State on Saturday, August 30, at 7 p.m. at Kyle Field.
