The No. 17-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team carded opening rounds of 308-300=608 on Monday and is in ninth place at the Club Glove Intercollegiate at Saticoy Country Club. The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
Host Pepperdine fired scores of 280-291=571 to open a commanding 17-stroke lead. Arizona State is in second at 589, followed by Colorado State (592), No. 21-ranked Kansas (598), Tulsa (598), No. 10 Arkansas (599), Colorado (600), Coastal Carolina (606), A&M (608), UC-Irvine (610), No. 13 New Mexico (610) and Houston (610).
Pepperdine's Michael Putnam leads the individual standings after rounds of 67-73=140, four under par on the par-72, 6,858-yard course. Putnam's teammate, Randy Creighton, is in second at 71-70=141, followed by Colorado State's Martin Laird at 72-71=143.
Senior Stephen Reed led the Aggies with scores of 74-76=150 and is tied for 20th. Also for A&M, senior Parker Briley is tied for 26th (77-74=151), senior David Tasker is tied for 32nd (78-74=152), sophomore Andrew Parr is tied for 46th (79-76=155) and sophomore Brook Gerky is tied for 61st (85-78=163).
