The Texas A&M softball team continues its fall exhibition season this weekend when the Aggies travel to the Houston area to compete in the Spring-Klein College Classic.
A&M will play three games on Saturday and two on Sunday, all at Collins Park in Spring, Texas. Admission is $6. For directions and more information on the tournament visit www.springkleingirlssoftball.com.
The Aggies open play against Southern Miss at 10:45 a.m., followed by 2003 Women's College World Series participant Louisiana-Lafayette at 12:30 p.m. and end the day against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, A&M meets Nicholls State at 9 a.m. and finishes play against North Texas at 10:45 a.m.
The Aggies are 2-0 in fall action after sweeping Blinn College in a doubleheader on Wednesday, 8-0 and 5-0. Senior Lindsay Wilhelmson (five innings) and redshirt freshman Jill Weynand (seven innings, eight strikeouts) tossed complete-game shutouts. Freshman Sharonda McDonald led the way in game one, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases. Also having two-hit nights in the first game were juniors Adrian Gregory and Jana James. Wilhelmson paced the Aggies in game two, capping a two-hit night with a solo home run.
The Aggies will conclude fall exhibition play next week at home. A&M meets Alvin Community College in a doubleheader on Thursday, Oct. 16 beginning at 5 p.m. and hosts the Texas A&M Fall Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Head Coach Jo Evans, entering her eighth season at the helm, returns 10 letterwinners and five starters from last year's team that went 38-22, advanced to the NCAA regional finals for the second consecutive year and ended the season ranked 15th nationally.
A&M opens the 2004 regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 4 when the Aggies host North Texas at 5 p.m.
