No. 24 Texas A&M extended its winning streak against Iowa State to 15 by defeating the Cyclones, 30-18, 30-27, 20-30, 30-16, in front of 731 at Hilton Coliseum.
A&M, which picked up its first Big 12 Conference road victory or the season, improves to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in the Big 12. ISU falls to 9-9, 2-6.
A&M led the entire first game, breaking open a two-point game with a seven-point scoring spurt to take a 19-10 lead. The Aggies, who outhit ISU, .390 to .083 in the frame, were ahead, 21-13, when they scored four unanswered points to take their first game-high 12-point lead. The Cyclones got within 27-18 before A&M scored a point on an ISU attack error, and Laura Jones finished out the game with back-to-back kills.
A&M also led the entire second game and held a six-point cushion at 20-14 when the Cyclones scored four consecutive points to cut the lead to 20-18. A&M answered with its own four-point rally. The Aggies equaled their biggest lead at 26-20 before ISU once against scored four straight. The Cyclones could not overcome the deficit, however, and with A&M leading, 29-27, Jones tooled a kill off the ISU block to give the Aggies a 2-0 game lead.
Poor passing and errors plagued A&M in the third game as the Cyclones avoided the sweep with a 30-20 win. The Aggies hit .000, their lowest hitting percentage for a single game this season, while ISU hit .263.
A&M held a 13-10 advantage when the Cyclones scored four consecutive points to take their first lead since a 1-0 lead to begin the game. A&M tied the score following a Cyclone service error before ISU went on a 10-1 scoring outburst. The Aggies could not get closer than six points for the remainder of the game.
The Cyclones were leading 26-20 when ISU put down two kills and posted an ace to be serving for the game. A&M's pass following the serve hung over the net and ISU's Ashlee McWee took advantage of the overpass, putting down a kill for the game winner.
The Aggies regained their intensity in the fourth game en route to a 30-16 win. ISU held a 3-2 advantage when A&M pulled away by outscoring the Cyclones, 11-1. A&M mounted several more scoring runs throughout the remainder of the game and held a 27-16 lead when A&M's Christi Hahn recorded her career-high fifth kill of the match. Teammate Melissa Munsch followed with an ace, and then Hahn registered A&M's sixth block of the game with a solo stuff to end the match.
Munsch led the Aggies with 16 kills. Beth Skypala added 15 kills along with team-highs of 18 digs and a .367 hitting percentage. Carol Price also posted double figures in kills with 11.
Brittany Dalager led the Cyclones with 14 kills but was held to a .067 hitting percentage as A&M outhit ISU, .221 to .093 for the match.
A&M also outblocked the Cyclones 12-8 and tallied 83 digs to ISU's 65.
The Aggies return to action Wednesday, Oct. 15, when they play host to the Kansas Jayhawks. First serve is at 7 p.m. at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
