No. 22 Texas A&M equaled its longest winning streak of the season with a 30-27, 31-29, 30-20 victory tonight over Oklahoma in front of 3,162 at McCasland Field House.
The win marked the Aggies' fourth straight win overall and their 21st consecutive victory over the Sooners. In addition, A&M coach Laurie Corbelli picked up her 250th career victory in her 11th season at the helm of the Aggies.
A&M (14-5, 6-3 Big 12) never trailed in the first game and built its biggest lead at 10-5 following a four-point scoring run. The Sooners overcame the deficit and tied the score four times throughout the remainder of the match but were unable to take the lead. An A&M kill error tied the score at 27 before Tara Pulaski put down a kill and then teamed with Carol Price for a block to put the Aggies serving for the game. The Sooners' Joanna Schmitt, who had seven kills in the game, hit into the net to end the game.
There were 13 ties and seven lead changes in Game 2 before the Aggies pulled away for the win. OU overcame a six-point deficit and took its first lead of the match at 17-16 following a dump-kill by setter Kelly McCarter. The Sooners went on to post a kill and an ace to take their biggest lead of the game. A&M answered with three consecutive points to tie the score, as neither team was able to take more than a two-point lead for the remainder of the game.
The Sooners were serving for the game at 29-28 when Kendra Felder tied the score with a kill. Beth Skypala followed with a kill, and then Felder aced her serve to give the Aggies the game and a 2-0 lead in the match.
A&M tied its biggest lead of the third game at 24-16. The Sooners got within 26-20 before A&M closed out the match with four consecutive points, the final point scored when McCarter was called for being in the net.
Skypala led the Aggies with 10 kills and 10 digs. As a team, A&M outhit the Sooners, .292 to .214 and outblocked them 11-3.
Schmitt led the Sooners (9-12, 1-8) with 16 kills and Christina Maynes also reached double figures with 15.
The Aggies conclude the first half the Big 12 schedule Wednesday, Oct. 22 when they travel to Waco, Texas, to face the Baylor Bears. First serve is at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
