The Muckdogs broke open a tight contest with a five-run eighth inning and went on to post an 8-2 win over the Goblins in the fifth and deciding game of the Texas A&M Baseball Fall World Series Sunday afternoon at Olsen Field.

The victory gives the Muckdogs the 3-2 series win and also gives assistant coach David Coleman his second consecutive series crown.

Muckdogs starter Tyler Soeder, a true freshman from The Woodlands, Texas, picked up the win with six strong innings on the hill. The southpaw allowed just two hits and one run while striking out four and walking one.

True freshman Doug Frame picked up the save for the Muckdogs as he threw two innings of scoreless relief.

Matching Soeder's effort was Goblins starter Jason Meyer, a redshirt freshman from Abilene, Texas. Meyer lasted six innings as well and allowed five hits, one run and one walk while fanning three.

Leading the way for the victors was junior outfielder Andrew Baldwin (Bryan, Texas). The transfer from San Jacinto College celebrated his 21st birthday on Sunday by going 2-for-5 with 4 RBI. Sophomore Cliff Pennington added two hits and an RBI to go along with several stellar defensive plays.

Coby Mavroulis, a sophomore from Abilene, Texas, who did not play in 2003 due to injury, was the top hitter for the Goblins. He went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and an RBI.

The Fall World Series marked the end of fall baseball practice for the Aggies, who are coming off a 2003 season that saw them post 45 wins, finish one game back of the Big 12 title and advance to the NCAA Regional championship game.

Texas A&M opens the 2004 regular season on Friday, Feb. 13 when Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comes to Olsen Field for a three-game series.
