The Texas A&M softball team wraps up fall workouts with the Maroon and White Series beginning Wednesday at the Aggie Softball Complex.

The two-game series will be in a split-squad format. Games are scheduled for approximately 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday and 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.

The Aggies have concluded their fall exhibition slate and compiled a record of 11-1, outscoring opponents a combined 81-8 over the 12 games.

A&M swept a doubleheader last Thursday against Alvin Community College, 13-0 and 8-0, at the Aggie Softball Complex.

Freshman Sharonda McDonald went a combined 6-for-7 in the doubleheader with a home run and three runs scored. Senior Lindsay Wilhelmson had three hits, a home run and five RBI on the evening, while junior Morgan Hebert went 3-for-3 with an RBI in game one.

Redshirt freshman Jill Weynand threw a one hitter in the first game, fanning eight and walking one, while true freshman Christina Smith allowed just two hits over the five innings in game two, fanning six.

The Aggies then went 3-0 on Saturday at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational, topping Galveston College (7-2), Texarkana College (4-1) and Temple Junior College (8-0).

Once again, McDonald shined for A&M, tallying six hits on the afternoon and swiping four bases in the finale against Temple.

Sophomore Kristin Gunter had five hits on the day, including a 3-run home run, triple and four RBI against Temple. Hebert was a perfect 2-for-2 in game one against Galveston while senior Sherah Atkins notched two hits against Texarkana.

The Aggies got strong pitching efforts from Wilhelmson, Weynand and Smith, all picking up wins on the day.

Head Coach Jo Evans, entering her eighth season at the helm, returns 10 letterwinners and five starters from last year's team that went 38-22, advanced to the NCAA regional finals for the second consecutive year and ended the season ranked 15th nationally.

A&M opens the 2004 regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 4 when the Aggies host North Texas at 5 p.m.
