No. 18 Texas A&M concludes a two-match road swing when the Aggies take on Texas Tech Saturday in Lubbock. First serve is at 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena.
The Aggies are 18-7 overall and in third place in the Big 12 Conference with a 10-5 mark after dropping a five-game decision at Colorado on Wednesday.
Junior middle blocker/outside hitter Melissa Munsch, who had 18 kills in the match to surpass the 1,000 career kills mark, leads the Aggies in kills (3.54), aces (0.44) and points (4.39) per game in conference games only. She ranks second among starters with a .320 hitting percentage and 2.98 digs per Big 12 game.
Tech (11-14, 3-13) is coming off a five-game victory at Iowa State to move into a tie with the Cyclones for 10th place.
Junior outside hitter Kelly Johnson leads the Red Raiders and the league with 5.02 kills per game in conference play.
Earlier this season in College Station, then-No. 24 Texas A&M recorded its first sweep of the Big 12 season with a 30-21, 30-25, 30-21 victory over the Red Raiders at G. Rollie White Coliseum. Laura Jones and Munsch led the Aggies with 13 and 10 kills, respectively, as A&M posted 52 kills to the Red Raiders' 33. In addition, Munsch tied her career high with a .500 hitting percentage to pace the Aggies to a .261 hitting percentage.
Jones and Munsch also led A&M defensively at the net, posting five and four blocks, respectively, as the Aggies outblocked Tech, 11 to 5.5 and held Tech to a .102 hitting percentage for the match, the second lowest hitting percentage by an A&M Big 12 opponent this season.
Johnson, who leads the Big 12 with 5.33 kills per game for the full season, was the only Red Raider to reach double figures in kills with 14.
With the victory, A&M improved its record in the all-time series against the Red Raiders to 40-23 since 1976, including an 11-4 mark since Big 12 Conference play began in 1996.
The Aggies are 14-10 in matches played in Lubbock. Tech, however, has won two of its last three home matches against the Aggies, including a 3-1 victory over A&M last year at the United Spirit Arena.
