Texas A&M Head Football Coach Dennis Franchione announced the permanent captains for the 2003 football season.
"Being named a team captain by a vote of your teammates is one of the highest honors for any football player," Coach Fran said. "The entire squad voted among the players who were named to the Leadership Council. The permanent captains for 2003 are Jaxson Appel, Terrence Murphy, Alan Reuber and Tim Van Zant, along with Blake Kendrick as the 12th Man captain."
Appel is a sophomore defensive back from Friendswood High School. Appel leads the Aggies in tackles with 124 entering the final game of the 2003 season. His total ranks second among Big 12 players.
Murphy is a junior wide receiver from Chapel Hill High School in Tyler, Texas. Murphy leads the Aggies in receptions with 37 catches for 612 yards. The big play specialist currently ranks second in the country with an average per touch of 20.7 yards.
Reuber is a senior offensive lineman from Plano High School. Reuber has started every game at strong tackle and has graded well in his assignments consistently throughout the season.
Van Zant is a senior wide receiver from Victoria High School. Van Zant is second on the team with 28 catches for 352 yards and three touchdowns. He has been very solid in his role as a punt returner.
Kendrick is a junior linebacker from Willis High School. Kendrick has had the honor of wearing the 12th Man jersey more times in 2003 than any other player. The walkon has also worked his way into the linebacker rotation and has chalked up 16 total tackles this season.
