The 24th ranked Aggies softball team took both games of the double header versus the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks on Tuesday.
Junior Jessica Slataper led the way in the first game by pitching a complete game no-hitter including nine strikeouts as the Aggies beat SFA 1-0 in the first match.
"It was a positive first outing," Slataper said. "Everything has to go right in order to get a no-hitter. The team set the tone by playing good defense."
The Aggie defense stayed strong and kept runs off the board as SFA held them hitless for three innings.
In the fourth inning sophomore Adrian Gregory hit a homerun with one out for the only run and hit of the game.
"I worked the count to my favor and she (junior Crissy Autry) came in to me and I hit it. I go to the plate every time knowing what I need to do. You leave your last at bat behind you."
The second game proved to be just as close and ended in dramatic fashion as senior shortstop Crystal Martin hit an extra-innings homerun to give the Aggies a 4-3 decision.
Coach Evans is happy to start 2-0 on the season but knows that they will have to play better offensively starting tomorrow.
"I was not happy with our offense in the first game. We were swinging out of our shoes and were a little anxious. That can happen in the first game. Offensively it was nice to see some of our kids step up and make a play when the team needed it. We need to regroup for tomorrow. UTSA is going to be tough. They really swing the bat well. We will have to be a whole lot better offensively to beat them."
The 24th ranked Aggies take on University of Texas-San Antonio on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Fans are asked to park at Olsen Field, with overflow at Reed Arena, and enter through the new main gate at the south side of the stadium.
The athletic department will be giving away Rother's seat cushions and schedule cards at the game on Wednesday.
