No. 20 Texas A&M placed seven players on the All-Big 12 softball first and second teams Thursday at the 2003 Softball Banquet in Oklahoma City. Three Aggies were named to the first team while four made the second team.
Aggies on the All-Big 12 first team are first baseman Kristin Gunter from Brenham, senior shortstop Crystal Martin from Arlington, and senior catcher Selena Collins of Glendale, Arizona. The four Aggies named to the second team are designated player Lindsay Wilhelmson, a junior from North Richland Hills, junior pitcher Jessica Slataper from Humble, sophomore outfielder Jana James from Mesquite and sophomore second baseman Adrian Gregory from Livingston.
Besides naming the all-conference teams the Big 12 announced four special awards for player of the year, pitcher of the year, freshman of the year and coach of the year. The University of Texas took home two of these awards as sophomore Cat Osterman was named the league's best pitcher while Chez Sievers, the Longhorn shortstop, was named freshman of the year. The Big 12 Player of the Year award went to Lauren Bay of Oklahoma State while Missouri Head Coach Ty Singleton was honored as the Big 12 Coach of the Year.
