Texas A&M football coach Dennis Franchione described his team's lone workout Tuesday morning as a "full padded grinder."
The two-hour workout saw the Aggies don full pads at the grass practice facility and Franchione said the team worked on more specific game situations.
"We covered overtime, two-point plays, a lot of situations like third and short, and fourth and short," Franchione said. "It was a full padded grinder day, but it was work we needed. We probably are going to make sure we start cutting back in the right areas here in the next few days I've pushed them pretty good and there is a point in time where you can see where you need to start shortening. I knew that was getting close."
Franchione noted that sophomore Ronald Jones has moved from cornerback to safety.
He also noted the solid effort that freshman Melvin Bullitt and sophomore Bryant Singleton have been showing on the defense.
"Melvin Bullitt has done a good job," Franchione said. "He is one freshman who could figure into the (corner) rotation somewhere.
"Bryant Singleton is playing a lot of nickel for us and we've got a lot of situations where we use five and six defensive backs."
The Aggies will practice twice on Wednesday with workouts at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
A&M is preparing for its first game which is against Arkansas State on Saturday, August 30, at 7 p.m. at Kyle Field.
