The No. 17-ranked Texas A&M softball team opens the 2004 season on Wednesday, February 2 at 5 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Field, part of the Carolyn and Jack Little '60 Athletic Complex.

Wednesday's game will be the opening game of the season for the Aggies and the Mean Green. It will also mark the first game in the history of the University of North Texas softball program.

A&M is coming off a 38-22 record in 2003 including a second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Regional Finals. The Aggies are picked to finish third in the Big 12 Conference. North Texas is picked to finish fifth in the Sun Belt Conference.

Texas A&M Head Coach Jo Evans enters her eighth season at A&M and 18th overall as a head coach. Evans has a 565-368-2 career mark and is 252-158-2 at A&M.

A&M returns five all-conference performers including pitchers Lindsay Wilhelmson and Jessica Kapchinski, infielder Adrian Gregory, outfielder Jana James and utility player Kristin Gunter.

North Texas is led by Head Coach Stacey Segal. Segal, a native of Bryan, played at A&M for Coach Bob Brock from 1990-1993.

Parking will be free for Wednesday's game directly across the street from the Aggie Softball Field in the Olsen Field parking lot (PA 63). Overflow parking will be available at Reed Arena.
