The No. 18 Aggie Softball team (1-0, 0-0) will travel to Nacgodoches to play Stephen F. Austin (0-3, 0-0) in a double header at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 8 at the Coy Simms Softball Complex.
A&M is coming off of an opening day victory over North Texas were they racked up six runs on 11 hits and six stolen bases. A&M was paced by senior right-fielder Sherah Atkins (Clute, Texas) who was 3-for-3 with a single, a triple, and a game-winning grand slam. Freshman center fielder Sharonda McDonald was 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs scored in her collegiate debut.
Redshirt-freshman Jill Weynand (Frisco, Texas) earned her first collegiate win Wednesday. In the rain-shortened game Weynand threw six innings and allowed only two hits while striking out nine batters. Weynand and the Aggie defense did not allow North Texas to reach base until the fourth inning.
Stephen F. Austin opened their season last weekend with a three-game series against Arizona State in Tempe. ASU swept the series by outscoring the Ladyjacks 16-5.
The Aggies' next home game is Wednesday, February 11, 2004. A&M will take on the University of Houston in a double header beginning at 3 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Field located within the Carolyn and Jack Little '60 Athletic Complex.
