The Texas A&M men's golf team opened its 2004 season with a sixth place finish after carding a final round 286 on Friday in the John Burns Intercollegiate at the Leilehua Golf Course.

The Aggies finished 15 shots under par with a total of 849 with rounds of 283-280-286. A&M was led by senior David Tasker, who finished in a tie for seventh after firing rounds of 70-67-70 for a total of 207 (-8). Rounding out the Aggie scorers were junior David Schultz (t22nd, 70-71-71=212), senior Stephen Reed (t41st, 72-71-72=215), sophomore Andrew Parr (t41st, 71-71-73=215), and senior Parker Briley (97th, 74-77-76=227).

"This was a good way to start our spring season," A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We broke par in all three rounds and that's the first time we've done that in a while. I was pretty pleased with our effort. Our short games weren't as sharp as I would have liked and we didn't play the par-fives well and usually that's one of our strengths. Overall I was happy with the way the guys performed. David Tasker showed a lot of leadership."

Arizona won the team crown with a 31-under par score of 833 (285-272-276). The Wildcats were trailed by UNLV (837), New Mexico (840), California (843), Brigham Young (848) and Texas A&M.

New Mexico's Spencer Levin won the individual title with a 15-under 201 with rounds of 67-65-69.
