Several members of the Texas A&M volleyball team were honored tonight at their annual team banquet held at The Zone at Kyle Field.
Junior middle blocker/outside hitter Melissa Munsch (Columbus, Texas), who earned second-team All-American honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association this past season, was named Most Valuable Player. In addition, she shared Best Offensive Player honors with senior right-side hitter Carol Price (Fenton, Mich.).
Best Defensive Player laurels were awarded to both sophomore libero/defensive specialist Holly Clay (Houston, Texas) and senior outside hitter Beth Skypala (Amarillo, Texas).
Junior middle blocker Kendra Felder (Corpus Christi, Texas) was voted Most Improved Player, while Most Inspirational honors went to senior libero/defensive specialist Rebecca Wynalda (Kennedale, Texas). Wynalda, a third-team academic All-American, and freshman middle blocker Christi Hahn took home the team's Top Academic award.
The Aggies were ranked 16th in the nation after advancing to the 2003 NCAA regional semifinals. A&M, which was eliminated by eventual national champion Southern California, finished the year with a 23-10 overall record and tied for third in the Big 12 Conference with a 13-7 mark.
The Aggies, who lose four seniors - Price, Skypala, Wynalda and middle blocker Tara Pulaski (Encinitas, Calif.) - begin team spring drills on Monday. They begin their spring exhibition season with a home tournament Saturday, March 27.
