March 03, 2004

Although we were plagued by bad weather, last week was a pretty successful week. We were rained out of practice on Tuesday, had to practice in the FREEZING cold on Wednesday, and then again rained out on Sunday. But when Mother Nature allowed us to play, good things happened!

We went 3-1 in the second Aggie Invitational, sweeping Penn State and winning one against Southern Mississippi. Our only loss went to Oregon, which we have already beat earlier this year. Overall, we played really well.

A major setback came our way on Friday. Our starting second baseman, Joy Davis, found out that she had broke her elbow in our game on Wednesday. She had to have surgery on Saturday morning to reset her elbow. This injury will place her on the sidelines for the rest of the year. Let me tell you though, this girl is the TOUGHEST girl I have ever seen! She is a rock! She will definitely be missed on the field! Hang in there Joy.

With Joy's injury, we were left with a hole at second base. So my new partner in crime is Sherah Atkins. Sherah played shortstop in high school, but hasn't played in the dirt since. She is working hard to learn her new position and doing really well, I might add.

This week is a pretty light week. We had a game yesterday against Texas State and were supposed to have a double header today against UT-Arlington but it has been rescheduled for next Tuesday. We have this weekend off before we head to Tallahassee next week. Hopefully this weekend will rejuvenate us and we come back next week with full force!

We don't play at home again until March 27, but our home crowds so far have been AWESOME! Thanks so much! Keep coming because we are about to get on a roll!
