The Texas A&M softball (12-10) team split their doubleheader with McNeese State on Tuesday in Lake Charles, La. The Aggies defeated the Cowgirls 11-0 in the first game but lost the second game 1-0.

In the opener senior right hander Jessica Kapchinski dominated the Cowgirl offense as she faced two batters above the minimum, allowed two hits and walked only one while striking out 10 batters.

Kapchinski, who improved to 3-1, was helped by an Aggie offense that produced ten hits including two each of doubles, triples and home runs. The Ags were led at the plate by junior catcher Nicole Robinson who went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI.

The Aggies scored one run in the top of the first inning when left fielder Jana James reached on an infield single, stole second and finally scored on an error by the McNeese State first baseman.

A&M increased their lead to 4-0 in the second off of two hits, two walks and two errors. Third baseman Laura Durham led off the inning with a double and then scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Designated player Lindsay Wilhelmson reached and advanced to third on the error and then scored, along with Sharonda McDonald, on a triple by second baseman Sherah Atkins. McDonald scored from second after reaching on a fielding error by the shortstop and stealing second.

In the third inning shortstop Adrian Gregory scored the Ags fifth run on a throwing error by the Cowgirl catcher. Gregory reached second on a double to left field.

Robinson increased A&M's lead to 7-0 in the fifth when she hit her first home run on the night. Durham scored on the play after hitting her first triple of the season.

A&M added four runs in the seventh to give them an 11-0 lead. James led off with a walk and moved to second on a Gregory single before scoring when first baseman Lindsay Park hit a single through the right side. Robinson added the three final runs to the Aggie lead when she hit a high fly ball that bounced off the top of the left field wall for her second home run of the night.

In the nightcap McNeese scored the only run of the game in the second inning when Aggie right hander Christina Smith walked catcher Sarah Holt with the bases loaded.

Smith took the loss and fell to 2-3 after throwing a complete game six-hitter where she struck out five and walked one.

In the game junior Jana James went 1-for-3 extending her hitting streak to a career high 12 games.

The Aggies take the field again on Friday when they open play in the Florida State Classic in Tallahassee, Fl. A&M opens the tournament against Central Michigan at 11 a.m. before playing Florida State at 3 p.m. (CST).
